Groundbreaking Ceremony Draws Excited Crowd

In front of a crowd of nearly 100 people that included community members, business leaders, and Valley-Wide staff, Valley-Wide Health Systems hosted a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of the new Cañon City clinic. The integrated healthcare clinic is slated to open in Spring of 2019.

Valley-Wide Health Systems’ President and CEO Gigi Darricades kicked off yesterday’s ceremony by welcoming the crowd and thanking the different individuals who have been involved.

“We are really making a lot of progress, and you can see that today,” Darricades noted.

Darricades also thanked donors, which included the Colorado Health Foundation, the Colorado Health Access Fund, and the Caring for Colorado Foundation. These donors have contributed $500,000, $225,000, and $75,000, respectively.

Another exciting part of this project is the facility will provide Nurse Family Partnership services, in addition to enabling services, within the new building. Nurse Family Partnership provides new, expectant mothers with a dedicated nurse that works with them to provide education throughout the process. Each nurse stays with the mother for two years.

Darricades then thanked Joe Aldrich, Valley-Wide’s Construction Manager. Aldrich described how iconic mementos of the old building would be preserved, including the vault door that is symbolic of the old bank that called the building home for years.

The new clinic will feature medical, dental, and behavioral health services in an integrated model.
