Men’s health month comes around every June, but November is dedicated to the Mustache, “Movember”. The Movember Foundation is an organization that promotes awareness and raises money for men’s health in areas such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.
From the Movember Foundation:
The state of men’s health is in crisis. Men experience worse longer-term health than women and die on average six years earlier. Prostate cancer rates will double in the next 15 years. Testicular cancer rates have already doubled in the last 50. Three quarters of suicides are men. Poor mental health leads to half a million men taking their own life every year. That’s one every minute. Our fathers, partners, brothers and friends are facing this health crisis and it’s not being talked about. We can’t afford to stay silent.”
For the past couple of years, the guys in the Valley-Wide Pharmacy have participated in “Movember” by either growing a mustache, or shaving everything except for our mustache, and letting it blossom through the month of November. Along the way we have raised a little bit of money to go towards the Movember Foundation and men’s health.
This year we would like to get as many men as possible to participate, and grow, or continue to grow your mustache. The only rule is you have to be clean shaved starting November first, (if you have a beard, everything must go except for that upper lip hair!), if you currently grow a mustache, you can keep it growing, or start clean shaved. During the month, you can’t touch the mustache, but the rest of your facial hair must stay gone!
Mo Sistas, you can help your Mo Bros as well!
Beside every great Mo Bro is an equally amazing Mo Sista, acting as a driving force for men’s health awareness and providing invaluable encouragement for the mustache.
Mo Sistas are women who support the men in their lives growing Mo’s and who understand the importance of men taking care of their health. They play a vital role in the journey of a Mo Bro. A kind word of encouragement, a wink or a smile of recognition can go a long way to helping a Mo Bro stay strong as he comes close to the end of the month.
Mo Sistas are agents of change who seek to inspire friends, colleagues, family members and partners to take an active role in their health. The Movember participation of a Mo Sista can extend far beyond signing up on Movember.com and starting conversations about men’s health.”
